Abstract

Through Transmission Laser Welding (TTLW) is used to weld Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) films by transmission of 915 nm laser beams to an absorbing interface, formed by infrared laser absorbing dyes. Welding process parameters are optimized for TPU lap joints by using peel test, tensile strength, and bonding quality. Welded samples were further evaluated using an 180-degree peel test to determine the effects of varying laser travel speed and laser power. Finally, the benefit and process requirement for a successful laser plastic welding for medical device application are discussed.Through Transmission Laser Welding (TTLW) is used to weld Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) films by transmission of 915 nm laser beams to an absorbing interface, formed by infrared laser absorbing dyes.
