Abstract

These proceedings represent a condensed review of the present thinking of a group of distinguished investigators and clinicians who gathered together under the sponsorship of the University of St. Andrews to discuss thrombosis and anticoagulant therapy. The views expressed represent a good cross section of those held by informed students of cardiovascular and hematological problems of Great Britain and continental Europe. In most respects, these coincide with the accepted concepts in the United States, but there are enough differences in details to warrant careful study of this volume by all who are interested in this area. The subjects covered were many, but they could be grouped in the following general categories: current concepts of blood coagulation in relation to vascular disease; the organization and laboratory control of anticoagulant therapy; the use of anticoagulants in myocardial infarction in peripheral and cerebral vascular disease and in prophylaxis; the heparinoids and their place
