Abstract
THIS report is presented to call attention to the occurrence of idiopathic thrombophlebitis in severely paralyzed patients and to point out that this may occur in other debilitating neuromuscular diseases. There have been references to fatal pulmonary embolism in patients with severe paralysis due to poliomyelitis.1 2 3 4 Furthermore, thrombophlebitis may be expected to occur in any adult patient who is immobilized for a long time.
