Abstract

Background: Non-hepatocellular carcinoma-related portal vein thrombosis (PVT) frequently occurs in cirrhotic patients; its prevalence correlates to disease severity and impacts mortality. PVT development has been attributed to compromised hepatic synthetic function and hemodynamic portal vein factors in cirrhotic patients. Whether thrombophilia is a contributor remains unclear. Furthermore, the potential impact of thrombophilia on treatment outcomes has not been studied. We aimed to describe the prevalence, presentation, and treatment outcomes of cirrhotic patients with thrombophilia at our institution.
