Abstract

The static distribution compensator (DSTATCOM) is an appropriated choice for solving reactive power problems, voltage and current unbalance, and power quality. This compensator has been deployed in a three-phase four-wire distribution system to solve unbalance and reactive power problems. The performance of DSTATCOM is very dependent on the control method. The control method used in this paper is the Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF) used for the three-phase four-wire system. The advantage of this control method is the conversion of three phases to three non-oscillating components, which makes it easy to control. Using the DSTATCOM and the control method mentioned above, makes it possible to eliminate reactive power, the null current and eliminating the current and voltage unbalances. In this paper, the PI and PWM controller is used instead of the hysteresis band to generate pulses for the voltage source converter. This controller has the ability to build and run, while the hysteresis band is not suitable for high power application. The proposed method is simulated by MATLAB / Simulink software and the results prove the validity of the proposed method.
