Abstract

The shape of the beam generated from a laser diode (LD) is elliptical, which is an obstacle for its extensive use. In this paper, a three-mirror antenna with a rotating parabolic mirror and two parabolic cylindrical mirrors is designed to convert the elliptical beam into a collimated circular one. Its design method is introduced in detail, and the performance of the system is assessed. The results show that the standard deviation of the edge beam radius samples (SDRS) can be reduced from 26.259 mm to 1.755 mm, and the ratio of beam waist (RBW) can be decreased from 2.9580 to 1.0080. Compared with previous systems, the maximum divergence angle of the output light σ of our work can be compressed from 3.97μrad to 1.24 μrad. while the volume of the system is reduced from 5.72 × 104 cm3 to 2.42 × 104 cm3. To sum up, the system proposed in this paper has three main advantages: no chromatism reflective system, convenience to manufacture and small volume.
