Abstract

Three-dimensional scattering of elastic waves by an array of parallel and periodically spaced cylinders has been studied. The incident angles have been assumed arbitrary, so in the most general cases the scattered waves consist of not only the longitudinal and vertically polarized shear waves, but also the horizontally polarized shear wave. The scattered displacement field in the matrix medium has been formulated in terms of Fourier series. The reflection and transmission coefficients as well as the reflected and transmitted energies have been obtained using the boundary integral equation method. It has been shown that Wood's anomaly for electromagnetic waves also exists for elastodynamic waves. Finally, the reflection coefficient has been used to determine the scatterer density.
