Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical effect three-dimensional and intensity modulated radiotherapy on narrow targeted area for nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods 86 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma treated at our hospital from February, 2015 to June, 2016 were selected and divided into a control group and an observation group using random number method. The control group were treated with three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy and the observation group with three-dimensional and intensity modulated radiotherapy on narrow targeted area. The treatment effect and adverse reactions were observed in both groups, the 1 year overall survival rate (OS), disease-free survival rate (DFS), local recurrence-free survival rate (LRFS), and no distant metastatic survival (DMFS)were measured. Results The effective rate was 67.4% in the observation group and 41.9% in the control group (P<0.05). The incidences hearing loss, dry mouth, radioactive oral mucositis, and radiation dermatitis were significantly lower and the 1-year overall survival rate, disease-free survival rate, local recurrence-free survival rate, and distant metastasis-free survival rate were significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group (all P<0.05). Conclusion Three-dimensional and intensity modulated radiotherapy on narrow targeted area for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma is more effective than routine radiotherapy and can decrease the incidence of complications, prolong the patients’ survival time, and improve their life quality.
