Abstract

This paper presents three-dimensional (3D) magnetic droplet manipulation through magnetic actuation on an open surface for biochemical analysis. To achieve 3D manipulation of a magnetic droplet between two parallel plates, the horizontal and vertical actuations of the droplet is separately investigated using a CCD camera and high-speed camera. The proposed method provides the 3D manipulation of droplets with a simple and reliable operation scheme for efficient biochemical analysis.
