Abstract

This paper introduces the classic and neo-Gricean pragmatic theory of conversational implicature and a formulation of the relevance theory. Then it gives exploration of the three pragmatic theories from its own principles, concluding that the above theories are in favour of their own principles for the goal of a more powerful interpretation of communication.
