Abstract

During the summer of 1980 meteor wind data were recorded simultaneously at Bologna (44.5°N), Sheffield (53.5°N) and Stornoway (58.2°N). Hour by hour comparison of tides and planetary waves in the meteor region shows that their mean behaviour is well resolved and permits the determination of wave numbers as well as meridional structure. Systematic differences exist in the amplitudes and phases recorded at the different latitudes which may reflect local variations in the stratospheric wind and temperature fields.
