Abstract

In this paper, we consider a wireless cellular network with support for client relay. As such, neighboring clients may cooperate with each other sending uplink data packets. Client relay technique has recently been shown to considerably improve the performance of cell-edge users with poor communication link. We extend our three node client relay system analysis to a more realistic scenario with limited number of packet retransmissions. Accounting for the packet retry limit, the throughput, mean packet delay, energy expenditure, and energy efficiency values are evaluated analytically. The obtained theoretical results demonstrate excellent agreement with simulation data.
