Abstract

A new 3-position substituted imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine ligand, namely, (E)-4-(3-(2-chloroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-3-yl)acryloyl)benzoic acid (HL) was synthesized and structurally characterized. Based on this ligand, two new coordination polymers, [ML2(H2O)]n (M = Zn (1), Cd (2)) and one discrete complex, MnL2(H2O)4 (3), were synthesized under the solvothermal conditions, and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy (IR) and elemental analyses. Amongst, coordination compounds 1 and 2 are isostructural and show one-dimensional chain structures. The discrete complex 3 is assembled into a dimer structure via supramolecular interactions. In addition, the photoluminescent properties of HL ligand and coordination compounds 1–3 have also been investigated.
