Abstract

Three new chemical constituents were isolated from the roots of Schisandra chinensis : schisandranide ( 1 ), 4- epi -bullatantr-iol-11-azelaic acid ( 2 ) and schisandraterpenoid A ( 3 ). Based on the known compounds of Schisandra chinensis , the structural assessment of new compounds may be challenging, so extensive physical chemistry knowledge and spectroscopic data analysis, such as NMR and MS, were performed. The neuroprotective effects of the three new compounds on hydrogen peroxide-treated PC12 cells were evaluated. Compound 1 showed better neuroprotective effects, with a cell viability of 78.40 ± 3.55% at 6.25 μ M. • Three undescribed compounds were obtained from the roots of Schisandra chinensis . • The three compounds are phenylpropanoid, sesquiterpene, and monoterpene glycoside. • Compound 1 (schisandranide) showed better neuroprotective effects with cell viability which was (78.40 ± 3.55) % at 6.25 μM.
