Abstract

• Three undescribed labdane diterpenoids were obtained from Leonurus japonicus Houtt. • Additionally, eight known metabolites were also isolated from an ethyl acetate extract. • Undescribed labdane diterpenoid exhibited the strongest cytotoxic activity towards MCF-7 cells. Three undescribed labdane diterpenoids, 15,16-epoxy-13,15-dihydroxylabd-8-ene-7-one (1), 15,16-epoxy-13-hydroxy-15-methoxylabd-8-ene-7-one (2) and 15-hydroxyleoheteronin B (3), along with eight known compounds, were isolated from an ethyl acetate extract of Leonurus japonicus . Their structures were elucidated using spectroscopic methods, mainly 1-D and 2-D NMR. Compound 1 showed the strongest cytotoxic activity against MCF-7 cells with IC 50 values of 26.8 μM, using the sulforhodamine B assay.
