Abstract

The article discusses the Mystic Capture of the fragments of the Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries made in the Southern Netherlands from 1495-1505 and located in the Cloisters in New York City. The author traces the provenance of the fragments and compares them to the other Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries. Specific topics include the condition of the tapestries, the types of thread used including gilt-silver-wrapped thread, the color preservation of the fragments, and the weaving technique used for the fragments. Also discussed is conservation work on the Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Cloisters museum.
