Abstract

We describe a macroscopic dynamical model for dissipative collisions in heavy ion reactions which treats explicitly the relative motion of the two ions, the mass asymmetry and the neutron excess of the system. The deformations of the fragments are treated by means of a dynamical switching of the interaction potential from a sudden to an adiabatic situation. This model predicts three kinds of dissipative phenomena: compound nucleus formation, deep inelastic collisions and fast fission.
