Abstract

The three dimensional spray combustion simulation in a swirling fired type furnace (125MW) where a pulverized petroleum coke and an ASTM No.6 heavy oil are fed from two opposite side walls has been presented. Predicted results are compared with measurements of exhausted NO concentration in a boiler with and without air introduced tangentially from the bottom of the furnace to convert from H2S to SO2 effectively. The predicted NO concentration in the exhausted gas is in good agreement with experimental results, and both of them show that the NO concentration in the exhausted gas increases with a proportion to tangential air flow rate ratio to the total secondary air flow rate, however, the soot concentration in the exhausted gas decreases. The prediction also shows that the tangential air introduction will be effective for oxidation of H2S which is expected to sulfur corrosion.
