Abstract

The performance of magnetic levitation systems at cruising speeds may be approximated by their behavior at infinite speed. For the latter case, the field equations can be stated in terms of scalar potentials only, permitting decomposition of the three-dimensional boundary value problem into a set of two-dimensional problems. Each of the latter may be solved by a finite element method, leading to a cheap and flexible analysis.
