Abstract

ABSTRACT In this paper, aluminium plate specimens with circular transverse hole defect was prepared, and the specimen was subjected to ultrasonic non-destructive testing using the TOFD (Time-of-Flight Diffraction) inspection method. Simultaneously, addressing the issue of three-dimensional reconstruction of defect within the field of ultrasonic non-destructive testing, a method combining the least squares approach and volumetric rendering was proposed to process the B-scan images obtained from TOFD inspection. This method was used to reconstruct the three-dimensional shape of transverse hole defect. The result shows that processing defect information acquired through TOFD inspection using the integrated approach of least squares and volumetric rendering leads to clear three-dimensional reconstruction images. This research offers an efficient method for the three-dimensional visualisation of transverse hole defect in plate.
