Abstract

A new organic crystal, 2-amino 4, 6 dimethoxypyrimidine p-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate (2ADPTS) was synthesized and crystals were grown from ethanolic solution by the slow evaporation method. Formation of the new crystalline compound was confirmed by a single crystal X-ray diffraction study. The species (2ADPTS) crystallizes in the triclinic crystal system with space group P-1. High resolution X-ray diffraction study (HRXRD) revealed that the 2ADPTS is free from structural grain boundaries. The thermal stability of 2ADPTS is found to be 93°C by thermogravimetric and differential thermal (TG–DTA) analyses. UV–vis–NIR spectral study showed that the grown crystal is transparent in the entire visible region with the lower cut-off wavelength of 296nm. The laser induced surface damage threshold of grown crystal was measured to be 2.6GW/cm2 for 1064nm Nd:YAG laser radiation. Nonlinear refractive index (n2), absorption coefficient (β) and third order nonlinear susceptibility (χ(3)) were measured by a Z-scan technique.
