Abstract

The present study focuses on the computation of fully developed flow and heat transfer through a stationary wavy-walled duct using large eddy simulation (LES) in finite volume framework. Shear improved Smagorinsky model (SISM) has been used for the computation of eddy viscosity. The wavy-wall is described by the sine function y=2a sin2(πx/L). The geometrical ratios Hmin/Hmax and L/a are fixed to 0.2 and 8, respectively. The effect of Reynolds numbers (2053–10,000) on the flow field and heat transfer has been presented. Instantaneous, mean and turbulent quantities are reported. It has been observed that the flow is strongly three-dimensional. The friction factor is found to be insensitive to the Reynolds number. Normalized Nusselt number ratio shows significant Reynolds number dependency.
