Abstract

A new code for numerical simulation of transient three-dimensional chemically reacting fluid flows with sprays is presented. This code uses unstructured hexahedral grids, it has been optimized for superscalar machine and has been parallelized based on OPEN-MP paradigm. This code named KIFP uses finite volume methodology on staggered grids, time splitting technique, SIMPLE loop and sub-cycled advection. These methods are widely used for combustion stroke calculations and have demonstrated their robustness and efficiency. For speed-up, preconditioning for the pressure solver and also renumbering grid technique has been implemented. The combustion is modeled via a new combustion model (ECFM3Z) developed at IFP. Finally, a calculation on an engine configuration with compression, spray injection and combustion in a direct injection Diesel engine is presented.
