Abstract
In this paper a survey of three-dimensional features in free shear flows and in wall bounded turbulent flows is presented. An attempt is made to develop a classification for three-dimensional shear flows. Some particular configurations of turbulent mixing layers are discussed in detail including concepts of flow control and their application.
