Abstract

Three cases of gallstone ileus are reported. All three were accompanied by cholecystoduodenal fistula. The obstruction occurred at the jejunum in one case and at the ileum in the other two. Only the removal of gallstones was performed without cholecystectomy, and fistulas were not closed in all cases. Gallstone ileus is an unusual complication of cholelithiasis, and half of all reported cases were not diagnosed preopeartively. Air in the biliary tract proved by D. I. C. -tomography and the stone shadow recognized by intestinal contrast medium through a Miller-Abott tube were valuable for the correct preoperative diagnosis.
