Abstract

Three case studies are chronicled, discussed, analysed followed by recommendations for urgent action. The cases involve non-payment/delay of dues and violation of employment contracts. The cases are about blatant violations at the largest, most profitable organizations; carried out with impunity with the confidence that an individual employee has no recourse to justice in a national environment that denies justice. The cases have tremendous importance in backdrop of violent protests in recent past resulting in gruesome deaths of executives. The discussion uncovers glaring loopholes in legislation, regulation and oversight of employee dues and contracts. Recommendations for urgent action include board oversight, comprehensive employment legislation, and regulations in line with those for depositors and debenture holders.
