Abstract
We report for the first time coincident $^{12}\mathrm{C}$ and $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ particles emitted in the bombardment of $^{40}\mathrm{Ca}$ with $^{16}\mathrm{O}$ ions of 64 MeV. Events which populate the ground and first excited states of $^{12}\mathrm{C}$ and $^{40}\mathrm{Ca}$ are observed. The coincident $^{12}\mathrm{C}$ energy spectra are dominated by one or two large peaks near the highest allowable $^{12}\mathrm{C}$ energy. Relatively few coincidences are seen at $^{12}\mathrm{C}$ energies which correspond to maximum yield in the $^{40}\mathrm{Ca}$($^{16}\mathrm{O}$, $^{12}\mathrm{C}$) singles spectrum.
