Abstract

A cluster of elliptic delaminations between the layers in an infinite laminated plate is considered. The three-dimensional elasticity problem is reduced to the solution of a set of integral equations and the nature of the stress singularities along the periphery of each disbond is discussed. The procedure for obtaining the equations for two-dimensional problems is also described. Physically meaningful quantities like stress intensity factors and energy release rates obtained from numerical solutions are reported for some three- and two-dimensional problems with single delaminations between similar layers and are compared with other approximate solutions.
