Abstract

In the decade of 80s among those who excelled in the arena of poetry, criticism and research, one prominent name is of Dr. Arshad Mahmood Nashad. His book “Kitab Naama” is that kind of his poetic creation which reflects the importance and multiple qualities of a book in an impressive and attractive style and revives the tradition of love for book on the pattern of masnavi. In the article under review we have tried to explore the range of his poetic plus points collected in the form of “Kitab Naama” .Although “kitab Naama” is a short book yet the poet has skillfully rendered the story of the rise and the fall of the book. Alongside the aesthetic mention of book lovers from northern and southern hemisphere, there is a description of those cities as well that are renowned all over the world for their libraries. Moreover, different processes and stages of printing, decorating and publishing of books have also been brought forth. The greatest merit of the book is continuity and beauty of expression. The story of the book is told through first person narrative which is an evidence of poet’s skill and craft. In this article, alongside highlighting the thematic angles of “kitab Naama” different aspects of the poet’s artistic skill is also brought forth.
