Abstract

Employers on the verge of a union organizing campaign must remain aware of one of the older, yet still common, tools in the arsenal of a union organizer: union insignia. The vehicle may take a variety of forms—buttons, patches, shirts, or hats, for example. However, the insignia always serves the same purposes, which are to bring evidence of union organizing into the workplace, publicize the union's interest among employees, and potentially trip an unwary employer into an unfair labor practice charge.
