Abstract

A high-intensity ensemble piece centered on a manipulative, sexually voracious gay artist whose passing leaves a "family" both sanguinary and sentimental in its wake, Those Who Love Me... is a key work of our age. Celebrated stage and opera director Patrice Chéreau throws the viewer into a whirlwind of character and incident charting a railway journey to a tumultuous funeral in which everything—from heterosexual marriage, heroin addiction, father/son relations, transsexuality, and HIV infection—is dealt with in ways both moving and comic. In constant sound-and-image motion, Those Who Love Me is a daunting cinematic object that strongly resists conventional analysis.
