He edited and co-translated Musil’s The Man without Qualities (Knopf, 1995) and has translated Goethe’s The Sorrows of Young Werther (Modern Library, 2005), Rilke’s The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge (Dalkey Archive, 2008), and Gerhard Meier’s Isle of the Dead (Dalkey Archive, 2011), which was awarded the Helen and Kurt Woolf prize for translation.
