A prolific novelist, poet, and correspondent, Thomas Hardy bridges the late Victorian period and the early modern age. He is best known for his novels of tragic intenisty, such as Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Jude the Obscure, The Mayor of Casterbridge, Far From the Madding Crowd, and The Return of the Native. This resource includes 700 entries including synopses of Hardy's major and most of his minor works, character descriptions, details about his friends, relatives and associates, and real and fictional places important to Hardy's life and writings.
