Thixcin E as an extender of poisoned male lures used to control fruit flies in Hawaii.

Abstract

Thixcin® E, a stir-in type of thixotrope, was a more suitable extender than Myverol® or CAB-O-SIL® for male lures used with naled to annihilate melon flies, Dacus cucurbitae Coquillett; Mediterranean fruit flies, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann); and oriental fruit flies, D. Dorsalis Hendel. Moreover, mixtures containing Thixcin E were easier to prepare than mixtures containing Myverol Foliar deposits of lures containing Thixcin E were residually as effective as lures containing Myveroll and were more effective than lures containing CAB-O-SIL when the formulations were judged on the basis of the number of flies attracted and killed.
