Abstract

### Increased tissue damage and lesion volumes in African Americans with multiple sclerosis A cohort of 488 white American and 79 African American patients with multiple sclerosis were evaluated using clinical and MRI measures. African American patients showed greater tissue damage and faster lesion volume accumulation along with rapid clinical progression. The results suggest that the greater clinical progression of multiple sclerosis in African Americans may be related to increased tissue damage.
