Abstract
This “A Glance Back in Time” provides a very special and poignant story, unknown to most. Alice Clarke was the founder of Nursing Forum and its publisher and editor for almost 30 years. She was a U.S. Army nurse when she interviewed the nurses in this story, soon after they were liberated from a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp. A recently published book, We Band of Angels, tells the in-depth story of these American nurses trapped on Bataan during World War 11. Its author, Elizabeth Norman, has given us a memorable, historical gift. This article was published originally in 1945 in The American Journal of Nursing, Vol. 45, pp. 342–345. Reprinted with permission.
