Abstract

The third International Urticaria Consensus was held in Berlin, Germany, on the 4th and 5th of December 2008. Some 200 delegates from all over Europe attended the meeting and even some experts from the USA, Mexico and Venezuela participated. The 2-day consensus meeting started off with the welcome by its prime organizer, Thorsten Zuberbier, who introduced the working agenda to the audience: the first morning, abstracts of studies on urticaria would be reviewed. This part of the session was a joint meeting, together with the Mastcell and Basophyl section of the Society of Experimental Dermatology in Germany. Its president, Marcus Maurer, co-chaired the Consensus. In the afternoon, the delegates proceeded to the actual Consensus Meeting. On the first day, the Consensus update on classification and routine diagnosis of urticaria was reviewed, after some introductory talks to set the stage. On the second day, the same logistics were used to review the Consensus update on the treatment of urticaria. As the consensus results will be published in official papers, they cannot be mentioned in this article. However, the abstracts, presenting some new fascinating data and the introductory talks, resuming our up-to-date knowledge in the field, can, and are definitely worthwhile.
