Third Annual Meeting of the Society—New York, June 3–4, 1955

Abstract

The Third Annual Meeting of the Society, held at Columbia University, June 3–4, 1955, was attended by 229 members and 95 non-members. On Friday afternoon, a symposium on Production Scheduling was held, with Andrew Vazsonyi as chairman, and with invited papers by Michael Creamer, R. L. Kirby, Richard Bellman, and E. C. Nelson. On Saturday morning, a symposium was held on Applications of Operations Research to Urban Services, under the chairmanship of W. J. Horvath, and including invited papers by David Valinsky, L. C. Edie, F. V. Hurst, Jr., and Henry A. Barnes. There were two other invited papers, by Richard Bellman and J. M. Danskin, and 24 distributed papers. Abstracts of these papers follow the reports of the secretary and of the prize committee. The program committee consisted of G. E. Kimball, Chairman, D. B. Hertz, W. J. Horvath, B. O. Koopman, and G. D. Shellard.
