Abstract

Abstract The reactions of chromium and molybdenum hexacarbonyls with bidentate thio-Schiff bases (TSB), derived by the condensation of S-methyldithiocarbazate with benzaldehyde, salicylaldehyde, acetophenone and furfuraldehyde, have been studied in anhydrous benzene under refluxing condition. The isolated products of the type [M(CO)4 (TSB)] (M = Cr or Mo) have been characterized by micro analyses, electrical conductance and magnetic susceptibility measurements and infrared spectral data. CO stretching force constants as well as CO-CO interaction force constants have also been deduced.
