Abstract

General differential equations governing the shape of the film formed between two bubbles of different radii and surface properties are derived using the lubrication approximation. The role of a soluble surfactant with diffusion-controlled surfactant transfer onto the surface is analysed. Analytical solutions are obtained for the limiting cases of small and large deformations of the bubbles' caps. Results of previous investigators are also obtained under appropriate limiting conditions. The results are in qualitative agreement with the available experimental data.
