Abstract

A new algorithm for the synthesis of thinned antenna arrays is proposed in this paper. The synthesis of an antenna array is a cumbersome process involving the optimization of multiple contradicting parameters. These parameters include number of elements in operation, first null beam width (FNBW) and peak side lobe level (PSLL). In this research a new algorithm called multiobjective modified binary cat swarm optimization is introduced. The output of this process gives a pareto optimal front with all the possible designs. A planar antenna array with 10 × 20 array elements was synthesized. The PSLL was reduced to a notable extent when compared to other algorithms with minimum number of active elements.
