Abstract
As previously published for the HCl system, this paper presents a comparative study of the behaviour of inorganic ions on thin layers of anionic and cationic resins in HNO3 media and behaviour, deduced from the literature, in analogous techniques such as ion exchange paper chromatography, liquid exchangers and ion exchange on column. On cationic resins, the RM values for the layer of resin were compared with the R′M for the exchange papers for various ions and again we find a relation similar to the one obtained for HCl systems. Also RM and Kd values were mutually compared for various ions always with good qualitative agreement. On the anionic resin, while we find for various ions a valid relation between RM and R′M, no quantitative relations were verified between Kd and RM. In other all cases the agreement with the related techniques is still qualitative. The best of these comparisons concerns the Kd values. The good qualitative and, in some cases, quantitative agreement, allow us to state that the chromatographic technique on thin layers of resins can provide, besides good separations, useful information for column chromatography. Moreover the quite short times required for migration, confirme the validity of this technique.
