Abstract

This paper explores the parallel drawn recently between Piaget's work on awareness and aspects of language development. The comparison seems to be a useful one although in some respects the parallel is not entirely satisfactory. In particular, in Piaget's examples it was obvious whether or not an action had been successful but in language development the relationship between an intended meaning and its expression is much more problematic for the child.
