Abstract

Reasons for the formation of well defined thin layer brown haze in the atmosphere are discussed in the light of previous work and the results of recent sampling. It is suggested that the formation of such haze may be due to the growth of droplets on hygroscopic nuclei in the absence of supersaturation and the haze would only be visible in a relatively unpolluted atmosphere.
