Abstract

After an introduction about the parameters which are important in the fabrication of thin film heterojunction solar cells, some methods of in vacuum deposition of thin films are discussed. A multi source evaporation method which was developed in our laboratory and which allowed us to obtain low resistivity films of CdS, CdZnS and CdTe, is presented. Some preliminary results about the rheotaxial deposition of CdS are also presented. Finally, some thin films heterojunction solar cells such as CdS/Cu 2S, CdS/InP, CdS/CdTe and CdS/CuInSe 2 which have shown a solar power conversion efficiency higher than 5% and the perspectives of increasing such efficiency over the limit value of 10% are discussed.
