Abstract

Gold lines can be deposited on metal specimens for use as reflective strain markers on microspecimens. This is a more time-consuming process than using Vickers indentations, but it removes any concern about the effect of the indentations on the specimen behavior. Indentations are not suitable for brittle materials, so the gold lines would be especially attractive for testing those materials.
