Abstract

Abstract : The linear equations due to Flugge for thin elastic circular cylindrical shells are solved by use of the finite Fourier transform for the case of distributed tangential (axial) loading with simply supported edge conditions. This solution supplements prior results obtained by Bijlaard for radial (normal) loadings. Combining Bijlaard's results with the solutions obtained in this report permits discussion of localized loadings having components both normal and tangential to the shell's middle surface. Such an application is discussed and numerical results are provided.
