Abstract

During series of balloon flights made in September 1961 and 1962, layers of radioactive debris from nuclear weapons tests were observed on thirteen separate occasions. The layers of debris were thin, ranging from 400 to 1200 meters. Most of the layers occurred in the stratosphere, but on two occasions they were found in the troposphere.
