Abstract

The benzylidene complex (CO) 5W=C(Ph)H reacts with the thioketones S=CR 2 ( 2) (R = Ph ( a), C 6H 4OMe- p ( b)), by formal addition of the thioketone to the carbene carbon atom and cyclization, to give the thiirane complexes (CO) 5W[ SC(Ph) HC R 2] ( 3). 3a is also formed in the reaction of (CO) 5W[S=C(Ph)H] with diphenyldiazomethane. The thiirane in 3b can be cleaved intact from the metal with NEt 4Br/CH 2Cl 2 or pyridine/THF.
