Abstract

Young patients with obstructing vaginal septum usually present themselves soon after menarche with pelvic pain secondary to the development of hematocolpos. Due to the awareness of pediatricians and in some cases neonatologists the diagnosis of vaginal obstruction can be suspected in juvenile patients at a much younger age. Various improved imaging techniques (abdominal or perineal ultrasonography CT and MRI) may add to the accurate diagnosis (vaginal agenesis versus transverse vaginal septum). The gynecologist may then be tempted to surgically correct the obstruction as soon as possible. In our case presented hereafter we describe the advantage of postponing surgical procedures in young girls thus facilitating a later surgical procedure. (excerpt)
